From Doubt to Discovery: Sathu’s Ride to Provide 2026 Journey

12 Feb 2026
Before Ride to Provide 2026 even began, Sathu wasn’t sure he could do it.

“I felt confused and worried,” he shared. “I kept thinking, can I really do this?”
But something inside him wanted to try. With training rides, gym sessions, and the steady encouragement of Por Non and his Grandma Mae Tiew, Sathu showed up at the start line ready to give it his best. At Hands, this is where building bright futures is born. Not with certainty, but with courage in saying yes to doing the hard things. Not with perfection, but with the willingness to take the first step.

Finding Courage on the Road

The first day brought excitement and nerves in equal measure. Every climb felt long and unfamiliar, but Sathu kept pedalling. Then, on the second day, he surprised himself by becoming the first rider to reach the water stop and the finish line.
“I felt so proud,” he said.

What mattered most, though, was knowing he wasn’t alone. Riders and staff supported him every kilometre of the way, cheering him on and helping him believe in himself. One of our new riders, Michael, took it upon himself to provide some guidance that made Sathu feel safe, confident, and cared for throughout the journey.

This is what creating a life of choice looks like in action. Children discovering they are capable, supported, and surrounded by people who believe in them.

Laughter, Music, and Moments That Matter

Some memories were about strength. Others were about joy.

Sathu still laughs about the winding downhill sections where he screamed at the top of his lungs. The moment became the highlight of dinner that night and even earned him the “King Chicken” award. And when the riders reached Three Whales Rock, surrounded by sweeping mountain views, Sathu sang a song from The Lion King, filling the moment with laughter and heart.

These moments remind us that the journey is about more than distance. It is about connection, confidence, and joy along the way.

Learning to Fall and Keep Going

On the very first day, Sathu fell and damaged his bike wheel. He felt worried, but he chose not to stop.

“I tried to be more careful, got back up, and kept going.”

As the kilometres passed and the mountains rose and fell, Sathu learned more about himself.

“My strength is that I can ride all day without getting tired,” he said.

“My weakness is that I drop my bike quite often.”

Self awareness. Resilience. Confidence. These are the things that grow when a child is given the chance to try something hard and supported all the way through it.
Crossing the Line and Looking Ahead

As Sathu approached the finish line, he didn’t feel sad that it was ending. He felt excited and grateful.
“I really understood how much effort everyone put into making this event happen.”

Ride to Provide 2026 didn’t just take him across landscapes. It expanded how he sees the world and himself. Long climbs showed him perseverance. Being surrounded by people who believed in him showed him what belonging feels like.

And when asked about the future?

“I want to be an underwater explorer.”

Because when children are supported with safety, opportunity, and belief, their dreams grow big.
A Message from Sathu

For any child who feels unsure about trying something new, Sathu says:

“If we don’t try, we’ll never know if we can succeed.”

This is the heart of Hands. Building bright futures. Creating a life of choice. Empowering future leaders. One child, one journey, and one courageous step at a time.
