Join us on the iconic Overland Track, retreating each evening to the only private accommodation along the trail. The fully guided walk begins at Waldheim in Cradle Valley and journeys some 65 kilometres through to Lake St Clair, Australia’s deepest natural lake.
Expert guides take the lead across this ancient landscape, converting to chefs come evening. They’ll also take the heavy load, leaving you with a lightweight pack. At the end of each day, retreat to a hot shower, sumptuous meals, freshly baked bread, a glass of Tasmanian wine and a comfortable bed.
Hosted by our Founder, Peter Baines, this walk is our latest offering to challenge our community, create a memorable shared experience, and raise funds to support our kids in Thailand.
We have partnered with Tasmanian Walking Company to deliver a range of incredible trekking experiences in 2022 that we know you are going to love. This means that part of the registration and walk logistics will be managed by their team however all of your fundraising will be done through the Hands Across the Water website.
There is a minimum fundraising requirement of $4,000 to participate in this experience.

Overland Track - Cradle Mountain

This walk is listed as a Grade 4 which means bushwalking experience is recommended. Tracks may be long, rough and very steep. The Overland Track is a serious undertaking, for well–prepared walkers, with a good level of fitness. Your journey will be physically demanding, emotionally challenging and scenically spectacular.
As long as you exercise regularly, are capable of walking an average of 10 km for six consecutive days, and are comfortable with varied terrain, you’ll be fine! There are obviously steep sections, however this is part of the whole experience. Each day, there is plenty of time to sit and rest as well as explore, so you won’t feel rushed.
We will provide training and fundraising guides for your journey but it will be up to you to ensure you are physically fit for this experience.
We will host a welcome dinner in Launceston prior to departure the following morning.
We will commence our Trekking adventure today with a 12km walk from Cradle Valley to Barn Bluff Hut.

REGISTRATION - PART 1
$500 Hands Trek Add On Package
You can confirm your place on the Trek and set up your fundraising profile by registering for the Hands Trek Add On Package. The $500 fee covers your Trek shirt, accommodation in Launceston on the first night, dinner pre and post trek in Launceston and a fundraising profile for your experience.
REGISTRATION - PART 2
The Trek Cost $3,495* will be payable to The Tasmanian Walking Company. They will require a $500 deposit at the time of booking to confirm your place with the balance due in June 2022. Once we have received your registration through the Hands website, we will connect you with the team from The Tasmanian Walking Co who will work with you to get more information and arrange deposit payments.

5-night hut accommodation. Please note that the hut accommodation is twin share and very modest. The accommodation is functional rather than luxurious. There are no single supplements available for this trip.

What is the Cost ?
In addition to the tour costs you will need to arrange domestic flights to Tasmania. Your registration will be handled in two parts.
To participate, it is a requirement to raise AU$4,000.
- more than 90 days from the scheduled departure date, a fee of $500 per person will be charged with the balance payment refunded to you;
- between 90 and 60 days prior to departure, you will be charged 50% of the full trip cost with the balance refunded to you; or
- within 60 days of departure, no refund is available. Bookings are transferable.
- The Hands component is refundable less any costs incurred at the time of cancellation.
Why is the registration handled (paid) in two parts?
There are two components to your Trek experience. The first is your pre and post Trek activities and shirt that is handled by Hands Across the Water. The second is the Trek component from the time you arrive at the Trek to the time that you finish at the end including accommodation, meals, guides, equipment etc... This is all handled by The Tasmanian Walking Company and therefore is paid directly to them.
Is Fundraising Compulsory ?
Yes. By fundraising a minimum of $4,000 for your Trek experience, you provide 350 children in our care with access to basic necessities, healthcare and education. Importantly, you are providing them with a life of choice. You will also benefit from a $500 discount off your Trek Registration.
What happens if the event is cancelled due to coronavirus?
In the event of the trek being cancelled due to COVID-19, a full refund will be issued or the credit can be transferred to a future trek.
If the event is postponed due to COVID-19 any funds paid will be transferred to the new walk date.
In the event that a participant chooses not to particpiate in the trek experience that is still going ahead due to coronavirus concerns will be treated as a 'change of mind' therefore cancellation. The non refundable $350 deposit will be forfeited.
