October has been an exciting month for Baan Tharn Namchai, filled with activities that have brought our children, staff, and supporters together to learn, grow, and create lasting memories. Here’s a glimpse into the heartwarming moments that made this month special:
Fostering Global Friendships
From September 21–24, the children of BTN welcomed students from Knox Grammar School in Australia for an unforgettable exchange program. Together, they shared cultures through recreational activities, made Thai desserts, competed in sports, and even planted trees. These moments not only created lifelong friendships but also helped the children practice English and discover the joy of cross-cultural connections.
Empowering Minds and Voices
In October, our young minds engaged in a spirited debate on the topic, “Which is better, rain or sun?” This activity sharpened their research and public speaking skills, encouraging them to articulate ideas with confidence and evidence. It was a day of lively discussion, critical thinking, and fun, as the children explored new ways to express themselves.
Leadership in Action
Also in October, our high school students stepped into leadership roles, organising activities for the younger children. They planned, collaborated, and executed a day filled with joy and learning. Through this initiative, they honed their teamwork and leadership skills, setting an example for their peers while creating a fun-filled environment.
Strengthening Bonds Through Play
Sports have a magical way of bringing people together, and recently, our staff organised a day of sports competitions, including futsal, tug-of-war, and handball. These activities helped the children build relationships, develop teamwork, and stay active - all while having an incredible time.
Improving Our Home
The children and staff have been hard at work improving the BTN grounds. From preparing the boys' dormitory area for a new tiled floor to tackling water drainage issues during the rainy season, these efforts ensure that BTN remains a safe and comfortable place for everyone. A special thank-you to the NARTA group, who visited in October to help beautify the landscape. Their work, including laying a gravel floor to prevent water accumulation, has made a significant difference, and their spaghetti-making skills brought smiles to everyone’s faces!
Lifesaving Skills for a Safer Future
From October 23–26, BTN hosted a life-saving SwimSafe training program for 50 participants, including our youth, staff, and volunteers. With guidance from the Association to Save Water Life, participants learned essential skills in water safety, survival swimming, and water rescue. These skills are invaluable for the safety and confidence of our children and community.
Looking Ahead
The excitement doesn’t stop here! In December, BTN is looking forward to welcoming students from MLC for an activity-packed week, joining Khun Peter’s Run to Remember on December 15, and celebrating Christmas and New Year’s Day together. These events promise to bring even more joy and inspiration to our BTN family.
