Supporting Children Through Hands Across the Water - Why It's Important To Me

Every child deserves a future filled with possibilities — a life shaped by choice rather than circumstance.  When I think about children who have lost everything through no fault of their own, my heart breaks.  But I'm reminded that we can change their story, turning abandonment into belonging and despair into hope.

Why This Matters to Me

I'm moved by these children's incredible resilience - how they still laugh and dream despite facing trauma and abandonment.  Their courage humbles me and reminds me of my own privilege.

What compels me to act is knowing that behind every statistic is a real child with hopes and fears. The little girl who flinches at raised voices, the boy who hoards food from hunger memories, the teenager excelling in school despite never having stability.  They're not just surviving—they're fighting to thrive.

I'm fundraising because love and opportunity shouldn't depend on the lottery of birth.

About Hands Across the Water

Born from the Boxing Day Tsunami response, Hands Across the Water (HATW) now supports over 350 children across 7 homes and projects in Thailand.  Children arrive through circumstances beyond their control - with no family or removed from unsafe environments by authorities.

HATW provides more than basic needs.  Through community outreach, they work with families to keep children safely at home when possible.  Their goal is empowerment - helping children recognise opportunities and understand their futures can be defined by choices, not circumstances.
