A bit more about Hands Across the Water

Thursday 5th Sep

Hands Across the Water [Hands] started as a charity in response to the Boxing Day Tsunami. Now we support 350+ children living in 7 homes and projects across Thailand.

The kids who come to live in a Hands home are there because they have no choice. This is often the result of one of three heartbreaking situations:

  • They have no known family to care for them
  • They have a family member who is known to them, but is unable to care for them
  • They are living in an unsafe environment and have been placed in our care by the police or government

Hands not only provides the life-saving necessities for the kids in our homes, they also support many families in an outreach program to help keep kids out of our homes.

Just as important as filling their bellies with healthy food and providing a safe bed to sleep in, with the support of amazing donors like you, the vision of Hands is to help these kids see the opportunities that lie before them, to see a life of choice.

My hope is that you will make the choice to join me in this experience and help me reach my personal fundraising goalPlease make a donation today to support these children and provide them with a better future.

Together we can truly make a difference - Donate now!

Tsunami- 20 years onward- Please support

Thursday 5th Sep
Dear Friends and Family,

I am sharing with you this opportunity to help fund a fantastic project - "Hands Across the Water" which has been looking after those Orphaned by the Boxing Day Tsunami 2004.

I was so lucky to have escaped on that day with great thanks to a passing driver who took me in the back of his truck away from the wave as it swept in.  I think often about those who were swept away and those whom they left behind and was grateful to hear of the Good work Hands has been doing since they arrived on the scene of devastation.

To mark 20 years since this tragic event, this January Erin and I are riding 1000 km from Bankok to Khao Lak, where I was when the wave came.  We hope to return to our ground zero and give in order to continue the healing and growth that has taken place over the last 20 years.

We are each raising 10,000+ AUD ( Australian Dollars) for this cause and greatly appreciate your contribution to this cause which will help continue to provide for orphans in this area of Thailand.

The project was started by Peter Barnes, leader of the Australian Forensic team which arrived to identify remains.  He was able to initiate funding and protection for those whose parents were washed away.  I am grateful for his work in helping nurture the human spirit through the most catastrophic condtions imaginable.  I am grateful to know that Hands were there to nurture and guide those who needed it most over the last 20 years.  Your gift will help continue this outreach and I appreciate your compassionate gift to them.
