Elly Johnson

I am raising money to support the ongoing work of Hands Across the Water because every child deserves to live a life of choice!

Hands Across the Water supports 350+ children living in 7 homes and projects across Thailand. The charity started out addressing the needs of kids who didn't have homes or access to food, clothing and medicine. As the kids have grown and matured, the focus has shifted to education and future employment opportunities. Today, access to new and exciting opportunities for the kids is just as important as a loving home and a belly full of healthy food.

Your donation will help provide a high standard of care, a chance at a better education and a future that they never envisioned.

Help Me Put a Smile on a Child's Face

Wednesday 30th Mar
In 2019 I was presenting at a conference in New Zealand where I met Peter Baines and began to understand more about the work he does with his charity group, Hands Across the Water.

I learnt of the children they have helped and saved and nourished and protected. I learnt of the buildings they have built or fixed up and the communities they have impacted.

I also learnt about some crazy long bike rides that are designed to almost kill the participants whilst raising money for the struggling and vulnerable communities and the children therein.

I boldy declared that I would attend the 2020 ride, a declaration that I didn't live up to.

Today I boldly declare to ride for the Kids in January 2023 and I will do everything in my power to make sure I do that. I am excited, I am a little afraid.

Right now, I am carrying 15kgs of weight that needs to go from my body. Right now, I am recovering emotionally from a relationship breakdown. Right now I am rebooting my business. Right now, I don't even have a bicycle to train on.

But those challenges are small compared to the stories that Peter and his wife Claire share about their experiences with children in Thailand. There are heartbreaking stories and heartwarming stories and I want to play a useful part in a story to help protect a child from hunger, harm and risk.

I will ride 800kms in 8 days and give all my focus to the mission in January 2023. But leading up to that, I will work to generate donations from my friends, my professional network and people I don't personally know.

All aspects of this challenge are new to me, but I feel in alignment and that is all that matters. I have learnt that when I feel in alignment with someone or something that I am on the right path and I should be open to where that path leads.

I am urging people who know me and those who don't to open your hearts and your credit cards and donate to this cause. I'd love you to support my ride, it will help me get my training groove on and will help me when it gets even tougher on the actual ride.

Thank you

A small amount of money from us can make a huge difference to a kid in need! Great work Elly.

I remember my first 50k ride, and I was SPENT. My first 100k ride was similar. 100ks a day over 8 days is a might effort. Well done. xx
