Through her employer and long-time supporter of Hands Across the Water, Diakrit, Sahar participated in the Digital Live Coastal Ride 2023, raising over $5,000 for Hands. The journey she went on was truly transformative, and she shares her experience with us below...
Favourite Hands Memory:
One of my favorite memories is when we entered Khao Sok National Park on day 4. The view was breathtaking, and in that moment, all the pain and heat we had endured just vanished. It felt like magic, reminding me of how powerful and awe-inspiring nature can be. Another memory that I cherish is when we took a break after completing our last stretch. We all gathered and had a heart-to-heart about the highs and lows of the week. It was such a beautiful and warm moment of emotional connection, where everyone shared their grateful experiences. The camaraderie and the chance to reflect on our journey made that moment truly special. However, what made the entire experience worth it was when we rode into Baan Than Nam Chai. The children there welcomed us with open arms, putting on dance performances and even throwing a Songkran celebration. It turned out to be the most epic water fight I've ever experienced. Their infectious joy and the genuine warmth they showed us filled my heart with so much happiness and gratitude. It's a memory that will stay with me forever.
Top tips for fundraising:
One of my top tips would be to make the most of social media and WhatsApp. Sharing your cause and fundraising efforts on platforms like Facebook and Instagram helps you reach a wider audience. It's important to make it personal and relatable by sharing your own story and explaining why achieving your fundraising goal is meaningful to you and how it will help others. People want to help individuals, not just organizations. Another tip is to regularly update your social media with photos and stories from your journey. Whether it's during the water stops, lunch breaks, or at the end of each day, let people feel connected and engaged as if they're experiencing the journey with you. Lastly, consider organizing charity events or sales to give your fundraising efforts an extra boost. And don't forget to follow up with personalized messages to people who have shown interest in donating but may have gotten busy. It can be really effective.

Briefly describe how you became involved with Hands and how you are engaged in the Hands community:
I got involved with Hands through my employer, Diakrit. They've been supporting Hands and The Digital Live Ride for a while now, and this year it was my turn to participate. As for my engagement with the Hands community, I haven't been actively involved yet, but I reached out to Claire and expressed my willingness to contribute and add value in any way I can. I'm looking forward to collaborating with the Hands community soon.
Reflections:
Looking back on my experience with The Digital Live Ride, I'm filled with gratitude for the privileged life I have, the power of teamwork, and my ability to push beyond my limits. This journey has been truly transformative, leaving me inspired, empowered, and ready to take on new challenges with the same passion and determination. Thank you to Hands, to the children, and to the friends I have made along the way.
