Give kids a life of choice, not chance. This is personal. Help me raise $10,000 for the children of Hands Across the Water - 20 years on from the Boxing Day Tsunami.

Twenty or so Years ago my good friend Peter Baines OAM and I were chasing murderers, rapists, child molesters, & other serious crooks, he as a Forensic Investigator & myself as a Criminal Investigator.  Then the Boxing Day Tsunami happened and it changed not only the course of Pete's life, but more importantly, the lives of many others.

It wasn't enough that Pete was instrumental in the morbid identification of the 5,395 bodies on the ground in Thailand.  Seeing the hundreds of children orphaned and alone, Pete was compelled to start the charity Hands Across the Water for the kids left behind.

He left the cops and set about building his first orphanage.  Since then Pete, his wife Claire and their team now support 350+ children living in 7 homes and projects across Thailand.

Whilst many of the original orphans have been cared for, schooled and prospered, the kids who continue to come to live in a Hands home are there because they have no choice. No choice because:

  • They have no known family to care for them
  • They have a family member who is known to them, but is unable to care for them
  • They are living in an unsafe environment and have been placed in Hands' care by the police or government

For the first 16 years, every cent donated  (100%) went to the kids. Then COVID put a dent in things, but still circa 90% of funds hit the kids, an amazing accomplishment, and their on their way back to 100%.

A big part of the fundraising have been the long rides.  I'm finally pulling my finger out (along with my partner Valli) and supporting Pete, Claire and Hands by doing an 800km ride across Thailand in 8 days, visiting some of their amazing projects.

Homes and projects where they feed, school and care for kids who don't have a safe bed to sleep in, a bed that most of us take for granted.

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to get behind Valli and I (because we'll only do it once!), and support our effort to build upon Pete and the Hands' team incredible selflessness and service - by donating to give these kids a choice......

So come on, give it up please and donate generously so we can not only catch up to the pack (we are very behind) but hit our combined target of $20,000 and ensure our efforts make the biggest difference possible....

Go now, go hard, we are eternally grateful (and will send you plenty of pics of our ride)........

P.S. Pete is about to run 1400km across Thailand (at 60km per day) in the 'Run to Remember', finishing on Boxing Day, 20 years on.  Running, raising funds, serious skin in the game, what an impressive human and good bloke.

Finally.....

Having worked with Bainesy many moons ago in the NSWPF, I've always followed and admired his journey and that of Hands, often threatening to do more than just admire. Well the time has come to connect the rubber and the road and support this great cause which delivers all funds raised to these most deserving young people in Thailand.

Thank you to my Sponsors
