I am raising money to support the children of Hands Across the Water because I believe that all children deserve to build a future full of possibilities, opportunities and dreams - a life of choice, not chance.

Hands Across the Water [Hands] started as a charity in response to the Boxing Day Tsunami. Now we support 170 + children living in 3 homes and projects across Thailand. 

The kids who come to live in a Hands home are there because they have no choice. This is often the result of one of three heartbreaking situations:

  • They have no known family to care for them
  • They have a family member who is known to them, but is unable to care for them
  • They are living in an unsafe environment and have been placed in our care by the police or government

Hands not only provides the life-saving necessities for the kids in our homes, they also support many families in an outreach program to help keep kids out of our homes.

Just as important as filling their bellies with healthy food and providing a safe bed to sleep in, with the support of amazing donors like you, the vision of Hands is to help these kids see the opportunities that lie before them, to see a life of choice.

Why Would You Do It For a Third Time????

Why I'm Riding 800km... Again

People often ask me the same question.

"Why would you do it again?"

After all, this will be my third Ride to Provide with Hands Across the Water. That's another 800 kilometres over eight days, in the heat and humidity of Thailand, with plenty of sore legs, early mornings and moments where I'll probably question my sanity.

The simple answer is this...

Because I know the difference it makes.

The first time I signed up, I thought I was taking on a cycling challenge. I expected the physical test, the long training rides and the kilometres. What I didn't expect was how much the experience would change me.

Hands Across the Water isn't just another charity. Every dollar raised goes directly towards giving children in Thailand opportunities they simply wouldn't otherwise have. Meeting the children, hearing their stories and seeing the homes and projects your fundraising supports gives the ride a purpose that goes far beyond cycling.

Suddenly, those long days on the bike don't seem nearly as hard.

Over the years I've realised that this ride isn't really about riding at all.

It's about perspective.

It's about stepping outside your comfort zone.

It's about recognising how fortunate we are and choosing to give something back.

Yes, there will be days when the heat is relentless. There will be hills I'd rather avoid and muscles I'd rather not use. There will be moments where I wonder why I signed up... again.

But then I'll remember why.

Every pedal stroke represents the generosity of people who have supported me. Every kilometre is another reminder that together we can help provide children with opportunities, education and hope for the future.

That's worth every drop of sweat.
