I am raising money to support the children of Hands Across the Water because I believe that all children deserve to build a future full of possibilities, opportunities and dreams - a life of choice, not chance.

Hands Across the Water [Hands] started as a charity in response to the Boxing Day Tsunami. Now we support 350+ children living in 7 homes and projects across Thailand.

The kids who come to live in a Hands home are there because they have no choice. This is often the result of one of three heartbreaking situations:

  • They have no known family to care for them
  • They have a family member who is known to them, but is unable to care for them
  • They are living in an unsafe environment and have been placed in our care by the police or government

Hands not only provides the life-saving necessities for the kids in our homes, they also support many families in an outreach program to help keep kids out of our homes.

Just as important as filling their bellies with healthy food and providing a safe bed to sleep in, with the support of amazing donors like you, the vision of Hands is to help these kids see the opportunities that lie before them, to see a life of choice.

My hope is that you will make the choice to join me in this experience and help me reach my personal fundraising goal. Please make a donation today to support these children and provide them with a better future.

Together we can truly make a difference - Donate now!

Why I’m Riding 500km for Hands Across the Water

Wednesday 8th Oct

In October 2026, I’ll be doing something that’s equal parts exciting and humbling: riding 500km over 5 days across Thailand as part of Hands Across the Water.

You might be wondering, why this ride? Why this cause?

The Story Behind Hands Across the Water

Hands Across the Water began in response to the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami, a disaster that left many children orphaned and without hope. Rather than leaving these children to fend for themselves, the charity stepped in to provide them with homes, care, and most importantly — a future.

What started with one home has now grown to three, impacting hundreds of children. These aren’t just shelters; they are places of transformation where kids are given education, love, and the chance to dream again.

Some of those who grew up in the homes have returned as teachers — a powerful testament to the ripple effect of giving.

Why I’m Taking Part

To be honest, it started because I knew people who had done the ride before and spoke about it with such joy. But the more I learned about the cause, the more I realised this was something I wanted to be part of.

Yes, the ride is 500km, and yes, it will test my fitness — but the true challenge is making a meaningful impact for kids who would otherwise have nothing.

This year, I’m also taking one of my team members from the Philippines with me — something that, as far as I know, has never been done before in the history of the ride. For me, it’s about the challenge, the camaraderie, and supporting others on the journey, both on the bike and off it.

The Power of Small Actions

When it comes to charitable work, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. There’s so much need in the world. But the truth is, we don’t have to do everything — we just have to do something.

For the children supported by Hands Across the Water, that “something” can be life-changing. A donation that feels small to us in Australia can stretch a long way in Thailand.

It can mean food on the table, access to education, and a safe place to grow up. It can be the difference between despair and hope.

How This Will Change Me

I’ve always had a strong philanthropic interest, and this ride is another step on that journey. I know it will stretch me physically, but more importantly, it will open my eyes to what’s possible when people come together for a cause.

It’s an encouragement for me to keep pursuing opportunities to give back — and maybe even to organise things like this myself in the future.

A Final Word

I can’t do everything. You can’t do everything. But together, we can do something. And that something will change lives.

Every dollar counts. Every contribution makes an impact. I’d love for you to join me on this journey and be part of transforming the future for these children.
