My target 500 kms

I am raising money to support the children of Hands Across the Water because I believe that all children deserve to build a future full of possibilities, opportunities and dreams - a life of choice, not chance.

Hands Across the Water [Hands] started as a charity in response to the Boxing Day Tsunami. Now we support 350+ children living in 7 homes and projects across Thailand.

The kids who come to live in a Hands home are there because they have no choice. This is often the result of one of three heartbreaking situations:

  • They have no known family to care for them
  • They have a family member who is known to them, but is unable to care for them
  • They are living in an unsafe environment and have been placed in our care by the police or government

Hands not only provides the life-saving necessities for the kids in our homes, they also support many families in an outreach program to help keep kids out of our homes.

Just as important as filling their bellies with healthy food and providing a safe bed to sleep in, with the support of amazing donors like you, the vision of Hands is to help these kids see the opportunities that lie before them, to see a life of choice.

My hope is that you will make the choice to join me in this experience and help me reach my personal fundraising goal. Please make a donation today to support these children and provide them with a better future.

Together we can truly make a difference - Donate now!

Three Months to Go - The Countdown is On!

Three Months to Go – The Countdown Is On!

Three months. That's all that stands between me and the biggest physical and mental challenge I've ever taken on – riding 500km over 5 days in Thailand for Hands Across the Water.

When I first signed up, November felt like a lifetime away. Now it's just around the corner, and every training session is bringing me one step closer to the start line.

More Than Just Riding a Bike

People often ask if all I'm doing is riding my bike. The answer is... not even close!

Preparing for a 500km ride takes much more than just spending hours in the saddle. It's about building strength, endurance, stability and resilience so my body can handle five consecutive days of cycling.

That's why my training is split between the road and the gym.

Strength Starts in the Gym

The gym has become a huge part of my preparation.

I'm working on strengthening my legs, core and upper body because cycling isn't just about powerful legs. A strong core helps maintain good posture on the bike, while upper body strength reduces fatigue in my shoulders, arms and back during those long days in the saddle.

Each week includes:

  • Strength training to build power and endurance.
  • Core exercises to improve stability on the bike.
  • Mobility and stretching to aid recovery and prevent injuries.
  • Cardio sessions to improve my overall fitness.

There are definitely days when I'm tired and the motivation isn't there, but I remind myself why I'm doing this.

Time on the Bike

Of course, nothing replaces getting out on the bike.

Every ride teaches me something new—whether it's pacing myself, climbing hills more efficiently, staying fuelled and hydrated, or simply becoming more comfortable spending hours in the saddle.

Some rides feel fantastic, while others are tough. Battling headwinds, sore legs and early morning starts are all part of the journey. Every kilometre I ride now is preparing me for those five incredible days in Thailand.

Riding for Something Bigger

This challenge is about so much more than cycling.

Every training session reminds me that I'm not just preparing for myself—I'm riding to raise funds for Hands Across the Water, helping provide children in Thailand with opportunities for a brighter future and a life of choice, not chance.

Knowing that makes every early alarm, every gym session and every long ride worthwhile.

Thank You

To everyone who has supported me so far—whether you've donated, sponsored me, shared my posts or simply encouraged me—thank you. Your support keeps me motivated when the training gets tough.

With three months to go, the excitement is building. There are still plenty of kilometres to ride, plenty of gym sessions ahead, and plenty of challenges to overcome.

I'm ready to embrace every one of them.

If you'd like to follow my journey or support my fundraising, every donation—big or small—makes a real difference.

Together, we're helping create brighter futures for children in Thailand.

Three months down... now the real countdown begins! 🚴💙
